The importance of being refreshed and inspired

I have been working extra hard with the run up to the exhibition, both painting and doing all the other necessary non-painting stuff. I was beginning to feel a little fried, and yet at the same time completely unable to take some time off. And then an amazing trip to the NY Botanical Gardens with dear friends appeared as if by magic, and oh was it worth it! The peonies are beyond words. Today I am feeling refreshed, recharged and so inspired by all the beautiful colors and sunshine I soaked up...so painting cats and flowers it is!

Countdown to the exhibition

I am so excited as I move towards my exhibition opening in June! And a little flustered as preparing posters and flyers and all the rest means more computer and less painting time. That said, I have just started on a new larger painting, and can't wait to get fully stuck into it.

Smaller sizes for busier days

Still working on my summer series, I am finding that a smaller size of painting is just perfect for those days that I don't actually have much time to paint! This way I can still feel I am making progress with the limited amount of time available. I can't wait to have a collection of these 6x6 summertime kitties ready!

Come on, summer!

Dreamy thoughts today about the warmer weather (hopefully) to come! April seems like a really long, cold month this year. So maybe if I paint summertime cats it'll help - a bit of wishful thinking never hurt anyone anyhow!

Manifesting dead birds

I like to joke about cats and bird feeders in my paintings, but the truth is that whenever Jones brings me a 'gift' I am less than pleased. Today I had just finished my Bird Feeder painting, and turned around to find this poor deceased grackle on the floor. I don't know whether it was a victim of Jones, or whether it just died and the dogs brought it in, but I couldn't help but feel I'd manifested it in some way. My next painting will have to be one of cats and birds as friends!
